This smartphone app assesses speech discrimination in real-world noise in children aged 8–12. Sixty spectrally balanced four-word sentences, compiled from Ministry of National Education textbooks, are presented in classroom, shopping-mall and amusement-park noise. Noise is fixed at 40, 60 or 80 dB while the speech level changes in 5 dB steps between −10 and +10 dB SNR depending on responses; the child selects the words heard from 16 shown on screen. The test takes about 15–20 minutes; in 50 children with normal hearing, scores were lowest in amusement-park noise.
